Black Realstory Series: Womanism
Today, we're talking about WOMANISM. I was first introduced to the concept of womanism by my Women's Studies professor, Dr. Michele Berger, when I was 19 years old. It was an awakening for me to have the language to describe why my activism was different.
According to Alice Walker, "It [Feminism} can be seen as a separatist movement, unlike womanism that emphasizes women’s relationships with men and the importance of family who are “committed to the survival and wholeness of entire people, male and female."
