Black Realstory Series: Abraham Lincoln was Racist
Do you want the Real History...or nah?
Seriously, Abraham Lincoln was taught to me with so much sugar on top that I thought he was one of the most amazing men in the world as a kid. I admired him (shudders!) I read books about him and was inspired by how he couldn't go to school, but his sister went and he would learn from her. I connected to his struggle.
But... I assure you, Lincoln did not connect to mine.
He did not see Black people as equal. He did not fight for us.
Really consider the discussion questions and converse (not with me-hahaha) with your friends, families, and students.
Happy Birthday, Abraham Lincoln!
(And to think, part of the reason why Black History month is in February is because Black people used to celebrate his birthday every year.)
